Commitment to the Children
At Little Footsteps Academy we help children become active explorers and self-confident, independent, and enthusiastic learners by stressing the process of learning and discovery through developmentally appropriate activities in a safe, secure environment. Children are also encouraged to make decisions, cooperate, take turns with others, practice listening, explore their environment and express, understand, and handle their feelings.
Little Footsteps Academy’s curriculum enables teachers to be intentional about the experiences they offer, while retaining the flexibility to be responsive to the changing needs and abilities of our children. We encourage children to choose freely from a wide range of play and learning experiences, and in doing so, help them to recognize, understand and express their own emotions as well as to sympathize with the emotions of others.
Our days are planned so that children will:
Throughout Your Child's Day
During you child's day they will be provided breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack, and a late afternoon snack. All classes have outside/gross motor play twice a day (weather permitting).
Our Infant & Young Toddler Classes
The Baby Bugs
Our infant class (6 weeks to 12 months). Love, nurture, one-on-one interaction and a stimulating environment are all at the heart of our engaging infant program. Our infant/teacher ratio is kept small, 4:1, to ensure that your child receives all the attention they need and deserve.
The Cuddly Cows
Our young one's class (12 months to 18 months). Our ratio is 6:1. In the Penguin room we start taking walking more seriously and our teacher's really work on early communicating skills with the children. We teach them lots of fun words and signs so they can let us know how they're feeling or what they want.
The Playful Puppies
Our older one's class (18 months to 24 months). Our ratio is 6:1. Our Cats are really getting around now, this class focuses on helping themselves a bit more and we start to seriously use spoons while feeding ourselves and try and break away from the sippy-cups. We like to learn our colors and sing lots of songs!
The Precious Pandas
Our young two's class. Our ratio is 11:1. Our Pandas are so full of energy and creativity and we really love embracing that in this classroom. They're just starting to potty train in here. There is even a baby potty in the Panda's classroom to help with training.
Our Older Toddler & School Age Classes
The Fantastic Frogs
Our older two's and younger three's class. Our ratio is 11:1. One on one time is very important here. Cooking projects are implemented weekly and potty-training gets more serious in this class. The frogs are encouraged to be more self-reliant and assertive.
The Outstanding Owls
Our older three's and young four's class. Our ratio is 15:1 but we like to keep our class at a lower ratio, so that children experience more one on one interaction from their teachers and peers. We're getting them ready for VPK. Lots of fine motor work and very loud singing!
The Fantastic Fish
This is our Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten class for children four to five years old. With pre-kindergarteners possessing such eagerness and ability to learn, we very carefully created a program based on the Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) standards that combines exciting teacher-directed instruction with stimulating child-centered explorations.
The Happy Hippos
This is our After-School and Kidventure Summer program group. We provide after school pick up and care during the school year. During the school year we help with homework, provide healthy snacks, and fun activities! During the summer Kidventure explores many fun-filled themed weeks and out-house & in-house field trips.
